REPORT POINTS TO MINING COMPANIES AS HEAVY POLLUTERS
Mining smelters in Canada released more than one million kilograms of heavy metals into the environment in 1998. That's according to a report from the Canadian Environmental Defense Fund.

TINY POLLUTANTS POSE BIG HEALTH RISKS
A study from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health published in December in the New England Journal of Medicine adds fuel to the controversial argument that even small amounts of fine particulate pollution, while invisible to the naked eye, pose serious health risks.
