LAKES ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF ADVANCED LAGRANGIAN AIR DISPERSION MODELING SYSTEM
AUSTAL View brings advanced modeling techniques to the desktop computer. Developed by Lakes Environmental Software and ArguSoft, a company based in Germany, AUSTAL View is a graphical, feature-rich modeling environment which utilizes the AUSTAL model. This powerful particle-tracking based Langrangian model contains its own prognostic meteorological model, and is capable of modeling far greater distances than plume or puff based models.

- Dr. Jesse Thé from Lakes Environmental, the developer of ISC-AERMOD View, the leading nterface for the ISCST3, ISC-PRIME and AERMOD air dispersion models.

ADVANCED AERMOD AIR DISPERSION MODELING COURSE
AUGUST 20-23, SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA
A 4-day course featuring instruction by Dr. Jesse Thé, Roger Brode and Dr. Akula Venkatram. This course will teach you the fundamentals of AERMOD as well as advanced topics that reveal the intricacies of the model and provide you with complete insight into modeling even the most complex projects with AERMOD.

The Instructors:
Dr. Akula Venkatram, a member of the AERMIC, which is evaluating AERMOD. He is a member of the AMS Committee on Meteorological Aspects of Air Pollution, and is a Professor of Environmental Engineering at UC, Riverside.

PESTICIDES, ASBESTOS SLATED FOR TRADE CONTROLS
Potentially dangerous pesticides and asbestos are set to be subject to trade controls under a treaty that aims to protect workers in poor countries from hazardous exports, the United Nations said Thursday.

A group of Californian scientists have revealed that the level of fine particles near to the World Trade Center last October were higher than those found down-wind of the burning Kuwaiti oil fields in 1991, following the Gulf War.

STATE OKs BAN ON BURN BARRELS
The ban on the outdoor burning of household garbage, which includes plastics, laminates and other complex chemicals, will reduce one of the largest known uncontrolled sources of dioxins.

CLIMATE RESEARCHERS WARN OF IMPACT FROM POORLY DESIGNED AIR POLLUTION EFFORTS
Climate researchers are warning that efforts to reduce air pollution could, if not well designed, make global warming worse. Limiting emissions of man-made nitrogen oxides, a strategy to control ozone in the lower atmosphere, would result in increased methane abundance and lead to additional greenhouse warming, they say.
