MODELING TIP |
Meteorology Options in CALRoads View |
CALRoads View is Lakes Software’s interface for handling the CALINE series of air dispersion models. Used for assessing air pollutant concentrations from on-road emissions of motor vehicles, CALRoads View includes three models: CALINE4, CAL3QHC, and CAL3QHCR.
Each of these models has unique requirements including how meteorological data is represented. In this tip, we look at how users can define meteorological data for modeling on-road emissions.
CALINE4
The CALINE model requires a single condition to parameterize the model’s mixing zone. Separate analyses can be conducted to assess a range of conditions.

CAL3QHC
Developed as an enhancement over CALINE-3, CAL3QHC incorporates methods for estimating traffic queue lengths as well as contributions from idling vehicles. The meteorology options were also enhanced to assess a range of wind directions.
CALRoads View expanded options even further by allowing for multiple sets of meteorological conditions to be specified in a single project. The application treats each set as a unique project so that modelers can assess project impacts in a variety of ways. The Record Navigator in the CAL3QHC Met Options tab controls each set of conditions.

CAL3QHCR
A final enhancement in the system was expanding CAL3QHC to use full hourly meteorology. This data is processed using the PCRAMMET meteorological data preprocessing utility. CAL3QHCR can read a single year of meteorology data per run.
CALRoads View includes the Rammet View interface for preparing meteorological data files with PCRAMMET.
