Modeling Tip

Removing Plant Receptors in AERMOD View

When modeling with AERMOD, it's common to remove receptors that fall within the boundary of the facility's property so as to only calculate concentrations that fall in the ambient environment.

Lakes Environmental’s AERMOD View application contains a special tool which makes simple the process of removing on-property, or plant, receptors. Watch the video below for a demonstration.

Supreme Court Will Not Block Mercury Air Pollution Rule

March 04, 2016 - WASHINGTON - March 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Obama administration on Thursday in rebuffing a bid by 20 states to halt an Environmental Protection Agency rule to curb emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants from power plants.

The action came about a month after the high court put on hold federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions mainly from coal-fired power plants, the centerpiece of President Barack Obama's strategy to combat climate change.

Chief Justice John Roberts denied a petition made last week by the states, led by Michigan, to put the rule on hold after a federal appeals court decided in December to leave it intact while the EPA reassessed costs of implementing the regulation.

The government said it was committed to cleaning the air and had delivered its plans accordingly.

But environmental law firm ClientEarth, which took the original case, said the plans still do not protect health.

NASA Partners on Air Quality Study in East Asia

February 24, 2016 - WASHINGTON - Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA and the Republic of Korea are developing plans for a cooperative field study of air quality in May and June to advance the ability to monitor air pollution accurately from space.

The Korea U.S.-Air Quality study (KORUS-AQ) will assess air quality across urban, rural and coastal areas of South Korea using the combined observations of aircraft, ground sites, ships and satellites. Findings will play a critical role in the development of observing systems of ground and space-based sensors and computer models to provide improved air quality assessments for decision makers.
