The AERMET meteorological data pre-processor contains many different features designed to aid users in performing quality control tasks as data are processed. This includes the ability to audit specific variables, modify valid data ranges, and more.
One feature built into AERMET’s Upper Air Pathway is designed to check for potential problems within the sounding and potentially correct these problems. This feature is the MODIFY keyword, and it consists of three actions:
- DELMAND: Mandatory levels within one percent of a significant level (with respect to pressure) are deleted.
- CALMDIR: Non-zero wind directions are set to zero if the wind speed is calm (0).
- SUB_TTDD: Missing dry-bulb or dew-point temperatures are replaced by interpolated values using data from the levels immediately above and below the missing level.
Prior to the 22112 model release, using the MODIFY option applied all three actions. AERMET 22112 gives users greater control over these actions by allowing modelers to pick and choose which actions to apply.
In AERMET View Version 11, the MODIFY options are found in the Upper Air Pathway. Select the Upper Air button, and check the Adjust Sounding Data (MODIFY) checkbox to employ the keyword. When the selected AERMET executable is the 22112 release, users can then enable (check) or disable (uncheck) each individual action.
